Wednesday No. 7: September 6, 2006


When Nathan paid his first visit to his upstate weekend home a few weeks back, he had, shall we say, creative differences with the yard, to say the least. Indeed, his repulsion despite repeated attempts at immersion by force was so absolute that the phrase "paws on grass" became synonymous in his aunt and uncle's household with "anxiety-induced paralysis," as illustrated below:


To his own relief most of all, Nathan has found harmony with his surroundings.


And he's also learning to be helpful around the house:

Hello Jane and Eli, thanks for your queries. I am named for one of my mother's favorite films, "Raising Arizona." There is in fact no literal Nathan Sr., unless the fictional character Nathan Jr. can be considered my father in a spiritual sense, and thus perhaps I should have been called Nathan Jr. Jr. But it's too late for all that now.
